ANASTACIA THE HIT BROADWAY MUSICAL NEW ZEALAND TOUR TICKETS

All You Need To Know About Anastacia The Hit Broadway Musical

Anastasia is a Broadway musical inspired by the beloved 1997 animated film and the enduring legend of the Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov. Featuring a lush score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and a book by Terrence McNally, the show debuted at Hartford Stage in 2016 before opening on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre in 2017. The story follows Anya, a young amnesiac woman in post-revolutionary Russia who may be the lost Romanov princess. Joined by conman Dmitry and the charming Vlad, she travels to Paris to seek her past and reconnect with the Dowager Empress. The musical blends romance, intrigue, and history with dazzling costumes and sweeping choreography.

While Anastasia received praise for its visual grandeur and heartfelt performances, some critics noted changes from the original film, such as the absence of Rasputin and the introduction of a new antagonist, Gleb, a conflicted Soviet officer. Despite mixed reviews, the show developed a devoted fanbase and ran for over 800 performances on Broadway before closing in 2019. It has since enjoyed success in international and regional productions. With memorable songs like “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December,” Anastasia remains a beloved musical that captures the imagination with its tale of identity, hope, and rediscovery.
