All You Need To Know About AFI
AFI (A Fire Inside) is an American rock band that originated in Ukiah, California, in 1991. The band's lineup, solidified in 1998, consists of lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer Adam Carson, bassist Hunter Burgan, and guitarist Jade Puget. Havok and Carson are the only original members. Initially rooted in hardcore punk, AFI's sound evolved over the years, incorporating elements of horror punk, post-hardcore, emo, alternative rock, and gothic rock. The band has released eleven studio albums, ten EPs, and a live album. Their fifth album, The Art of Drowning (2000), marked their first major commercial success, while Sing the Sorrow (2003) helped them break into the mainstream with chart-topping singles like "Girl's Not Grey" and "Silver and Cold." The Platinum-certified album sold over 1.26 million copies and solidified their place in the rock world.
Their seventh album, Decemberunderground (2006), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, largely due to the success of the single "Miss Murder." AFI's later albums, including Crash Love (2009), Burials (2013), and The Blood Album (2017), continued to showcase their ability to blend diverse genres such as new wave, gothic rock, and alternative rock. Their most recent release, Bodies (2021), further cemented their genre-defying approach. Known for their theatrical performances and unique sound, AFI has been hailed as pioneers of gothic punk, merging punk's raw intensity with emotional depth. Though they resist being labeled as "goth-punk," their music consistently evolves, with each album reflecting their commitment to innovation and musical exploration, as highlighted by guitarist Jade Puget.
