The name "Hatsune Miku" means "the first sound of the future." She was the first of Crypton's "Character Vocal Series," preceding Kagamine Rin/Len and Megurine Luka. Released on August 31, 2007, Miku was designed to be an android diva from a future world where songs are lost. Since her debut, she has been updated with various voicebanks and new features, including an English vocal library and a Mandarin Chinese voicebank, making her trilingual.
