The 300+ dates marked the superstar’s last-ever tour, the end of half a century on the road for one of pop culture’s most enduring and much adored performers.

Australian tour promoters Chugg Entertainment have already confirmed the tour will hit Australia and New Zealand sometime between December 2019 and February 2020.

Elton last toured Australia between September and October 2017, but we’ve been told his final Australian and New Zealand tour will be “the most extensive tour he’s ever done of the countries”.

Raised in the Pinner area of London, Sir Elton Hercules John (he’s real name—Reginald Dwight—didn’t quite have the same ring to it) learned to play piano at an early age, and by 1962 he’d formed the group, Bluesology.

In 1967, John met his songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, after they both answered an ad for songwriters. For two years they wrote songs for other artists, including Lulu, and John also worked as a session musician for artists such as the Hollies and the Scaffold.

In 1969 his debut album, Empty Sky, was released. His first hit single "Your Song" followed in 1970 from his second album, Elton John, and reached top ten in the UK and the U.S. After decades of chart success, John has also achieved success in musical films and theatre, composing music for The Lion King and its stage adaptation, Aida and Billy Elliot the Musical.

Sir Elton has been heavily involved in the fight against AIDS since the late 1980s as well. In 1992, he established the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Since its inception, the foundation has raised over US$200 million.

On 24 January 2018, John announced he would be retiring from touring and would soon embark on a three-year farewell tour, beginning in September 2018.

Announcing his farewell tour in a live-streamed event, John told fans that while he’ll stay “creative” and will go out “with a bang”, he’s decided he’s “not going to be touring anymore”.

“I’m not going to be touring and travelling the world,” he said, before discussing his life with husband David Furnish and their two children.

“My priorities have changed in my life… my priorities now are my children and my husband and my family.”

Sir Elton first performed in Australia way back in October 1971. Stay tuned to The Ticket Merchant for details of his upcoming final Australian and New Zealand tour dates by joining the Elton John Waitlist.
