The 2025 AFL season has delivered everything fans could hope for – drama, upsets, and unforgettable moments. From a chaotic Opening Round impacted by wild weather to a finals race that went right down to the wire, footy fans have been spoilt for choice.
We’ve taken on the tough task of narrowing it down to the Top 10 games of the 2025 AFL Home & Away Season. Did your favourite match make the cut?
Round 1 – Richmond v Carlton (MCG)
The season opener between Richmond and Carlton is always a fixture highlight, but 2025 gave us a classic. With Carlton jumping to a 41-point lead in the second quarter, it looked like the Tigers were in for a long year. Instead, young guns Tom Brown, Sam Lalor and Seth Campbell (with his now-famous backflip goal celebration) sparked an incredible comeback, giving Richmond fans a night to remember.
Round 2 – Western Bulldogs v Collingwood (MCG)
The Bulldogs’ 100th anniversary celebration brought nearly 80,000 fans to the MCG. Despite missing key players, the young Dogs fought bravely with Sam Darcy starring. But the reigning premiers held firm, with Steele Sidebottom delivering the decisive blow late in the game to secure a vital Collingwood win.
Round 4 – Gold Coast v Adelaide (People First Stadium)
The Suns’ resurgence in 2025 was no fluke, and their Round 4 clash with Adelaide proved it. The Crows fought back through Riley Thilthorpe (5 goals) and Tex Walker (4 goals), but Gold Coast had the answers. A bold coaching move pushed Touk Miller forward, and he delivered in a frantic last quarter. A controversial late call involving Izak Rankine only added to the drama, but the Suns held on for a statement victory.
Round 6 (Easter Monday) – Geelong v Hawthorn (MCG)
The Easter Monday showdown returned to its former glory. Hawthorn showed they were ready to compete again, with Nick “The Wizard” Watson producing moments of brilliance. But new Cat Bailey Smith (28 disposals) and a late goal from Shaun Mannagh ensured Geelong came out on top in another thrilling installment of this great rivalry.
Round 8 – Collingwood v Geelong (MCG)
A Saturday night blockbuster in front of 82,000 fans lived up to the hype. The Pies led early, but Geelong stormed home in the final term through Bailey Smith and Patrick Dangerfield. Jack Crisp, celebrating his record-breaking 245th consecutive game, had the chance to seal a Collingwood victory after the siren. His shot drifted wide, leaving the Cats to celebrate a heart-stopping win.
Round 13 (King’s Birthday) – Melbourne v Collingwood (MCG)
This annual clash rarely disappoints, and 2025 was no exception. Written off before the bounce, the Demons fought hard behind Clayton Oliver, Christian Petracca and Max Gawn. But a costly Gawn turnover in defence handed Will Hoskin-Elliott a match-winning moment. Collingwood held on, while Melbourne’s season effectively ended that afternoon.
Round 18 – Gold Coast v Collingwood (People First Stadium)
Gold Coast’s coming-of-age moment. The Suns stunned fans by keeping Collingwood scoreless in the first half. The Pies, led by Jamie Elliott and Josh Daicos, fought back with trademark grit, but Gold Coast showed composure beyond their years. Two late goals sealed a famous win and cemented the Suns as genuine contenders.
Round 19 – Collingwood v Fremantle (MCG)
The Dockers silenced a packed MCG with a fearless performance. Patrick Voss (6 goals) and Luke Jackson led the way as Fremantle absorbed everything the Pies threw at them. With seconds left, Shai Bolton missed a shot on goal but his behind was enough to secure a rare and historic Dockers victory on Victorian soil.
Round 20 – St Kilda v Melbourne (Marvel Stadium)
What started as Melbourne’s best performance of 2025 turned into a nightmare. Leading by 46 points early in the final term, the Demons looked home before St Kilda produced the greatest three-quarter time comeback in AFL history. Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera was unstoppable with 34 disposals, 4 goals and a screamer in the dying moments. His after-the-siren goal capped off one of the most remarkable individual performances fans have ever seen.
Round 23 – Adelaide v Collingwood (Adelaide Oval)
Collingwood had dominated the Crows for nearly a decade, but Adelaide broke the drought in front of a record home crowd. The Pies led early, but Jordan Dawson inspired Adelaide’s charge. In a tense, defensive final quarter, Riley Thilthorpe and Nick Daicos traded goals before the Crows clung on in a nail-biter to secure top spot on the ladder heading into finals.
