Birds of Tokyo, an alternative rock band from Perth, Australia, first gained attention with their debut album, Day One. The album reached number three on the AIR Independent Album charts and remained in the top ten for 36 weeks. Their 2008 follow-up, Universes, climbed to number three on the ARIA Albums Chart, while their 2010 self-titled album peaked at number two, spending over eight months in the top 20 and earning the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album.

In 2013, the band secured their first number-one album with March Fires, which was certified gold within weeks and featured the triple-platinum hit Lanterns. They continued their success with Brace (2016) and Human Design (2020), the latter debuting at the top of the Australian charts.
