King Stingray is an Australian rock band originating from Northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. They describe their unique sound as "Yolŋu surf rock," performing songs with lyrics in both English and Yolŋu Matha. The band made their debut with the single "Hey Wanhaka" in October 2020, followed by their self-titled debut album, released on August 5, 2022. Founding members, lead vocalist Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu and guitarist Roy Kellaway, have been friends since childhood, having grown up together in the Yolŋu community of Yirrkala. They were later joined by guitarist and didgeridoo player Dimathaya Burarrwanga and bassist Campbell Messer, forming King Stingray in 2020 after signing with The Chats' Bargain Bin Records.

Since their formation, King Stingray has released several singles, including "Get Me Out," which honors the significance of home and was inspired by a family member who went missing during a tour. In August 2021, they signed with Cooking Vinyl Australia and released "Milkumana," highlighting the importance of knowledge transfer. Both "Milkumana" and "Get Me Out" charted in the triple j Hottest 100, and the band continued to gain prominence, performing alongside major artists like Midnight Oil. Their cover of Men at Work's "Down Under" was featured in a Tourism Australia campaign, and in August 2023, they received three AIR Awards for their contributions. Their second studio album, For the Dreams, is set to be released in November 2024.
